Permasteelisa’s Dutch brand, Scheldebouw, will take the lead as the specialist façade contractor for design, engineering and manufacture for the £500m transformation of the site at 60 Gracechurch Street, with UK colleagues supporting on the installation.
Obayashi has engaged Shard developer Sellar as development manager to redevelop the site into a 36-storey scheme offering more than 37,000 sqm of Square Mile office space. The existing 127,000 sqft, 13-storey building was only built in 1997 and then revamped in 2010. The replacement will be complete in early 2029.
Designed by architect 3XN and to be built by Bovis, 60 Gracechurch Street aims to minimise carbon emissions in construction and operation. The building will be powered by electricity.
Jalal Fitoury, chief executive of Permasteelisa Group in Europe, said: “We are delighted to have been entrusted by Obayashi to bring the architectural vision of this fantastic scheme to life. Scheldebouw has extensive experience in delivering sustainable facades for high-profile schemes in London including The Shard. This expertise will be key to developing a building envelope that meets our client’s exact design and performance requirements, including carbon emission targets.”
