Fast work on Monument Building core

19 Feb 15 The main core for The Monument Building, Skanska’s 10-storey commercial development in the City of London, is now structurally complete, ahead of schedule.

The 45-metre high core was formed in just 15 working days at an average speed of three metres a day by a 40-strong team.

Completion is scheduled for spring 2016. The building is being developed speculatively under the Workplaces by Skanska banner adjacent to The Monument itself, the 61-metre high Doric column that was built in 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London.

Total development cost is put at £57m and the construction contract is valued at £33m.

Skanska development manager James Willats said: “It’s great that The Monument Building is taking shape so quickly. On completion next year it will be a welcome addition to the City landscape, offering Grade A office accommodation and exciting retail opportunities.”
